Sell Your Rolex With FORTUNA

Record-breaking results. The lowest seller fees. A global audience of serious Rolex collectors competing for your timepiece.

The Crown of Swiss Horology

Since Hans Wilsdorf founded the company in 1905, Rolex has set the benchmark for precision, reliability, and enduring design. From the first waterproof Oyster in 1926 to the self-winding Perpetual rotor, the dive-ready Submariner, the pilot’s GMT-Master, and the racing Daytona, each reference has become a cultural touchstone worn on the wrists of explorers, divers, astronauts, and statesmen. More than a century of uncompromising quality has made Rolex the world’s most recognized luxury watch and one of the most liquid assets in the secondary market — where vintage sports models and discontinued references routinely trade well above their original retail.

What Makes Your Rolex Valuable at Auction

Reference & Rarity

Discontinued references, transitional dials, and early production runs command meaningful premiums. A Paul Newman Daytona, a tropical Submariner, or an exotic GMT dial can multiply a watch’s value several times over its standard counterpart.

Condition & Originality

Unpolished cases, original dials, matching hands, and correct movement components are decisive. Bidders pay premiums for watches that retain factory finishing and have not been over-serviced or modified.

Provenance & Papers

Original box, punched guarantee card, service records, and documented ownership history materially lift auction results. Military-issued, celebrity-owned, or single-owner examples can command extraordinary premiums.

Every Rolex that passes through our doors undergoes thorough authentication by our certified watchmakers. We verify serial numbers, movement calibers, dial authenticity, and case integrity to ensure accurate representation and buyer confidence — which translates directly to higher bids.

Market Intelligence

We track Rolex market trends in real time. Whether it’s the surging demand for vintage sport models, the premium on discontinued references, or emerging interest in specific dial configurations, our pricing strategy is informed by the latest market data to maximize your result.

Value Enhancement

Our specialists assess whether services like professional polishing, movement servicing, or obtaining additional documentation could meaningfully increase your watch’s hammer price. All enhancement services are covered by FORTUNA upfront — you pay nothing until your watch sells.

What Collectors Look For in Your Rolex

Today’s Rolex market is driven by knowledgeable collectors who evaluate every detail. When a piece comes to auction, bidding is shaped by factors that often surprise first-time sellers:

Dial Variations: Tropical patinas, matte-to-gloss transitions, underline dials, exotic sub-register layouts, and service-replaced dials can each shift value by tens of thousands.

Bezel & Bracelet Originality: Faded inserts, ghost bezels, and riveted or folded-link bracelets with correct end-links separate collectible examples from everyday watches.

Case Sharpness: Unpolished lugs with crisp chamfers are prized; heavy polishing that softens case geometry can cut value significantly.

Serial & Reference Alignment: Correct serial range for the reference, matching case-back engravings, and period-correct movement components confirm authenticity to sophisticated bidders.

Complete Sets: Original box, papers, hang tags, anchor, booklets, and service pouch lift hammer prices and broaden the bidder pool.

Provenance Stories: Single-owner watches, military issue (MilSub, Pan Am GMT), professional divers, or documented celebrity ownership can command multiples of standard market value.

Common Selling Questions

What’s the seller’s commission?

Our seller’s commission is presented upfront and agreed between you and FORTUNA before any item is listed — it’s locked in when we issue your consignment agreement, not discovered later. The rate is sometimes negotiable for higher-value or in-demand pieces, or for consignors bringing us large collections or full estates. Most of our fee comes from the buyer’s premium, so the seller’s commission stays modest by design.

What is a “reserve price”?

The reserve is the minimum price we will accept as a winning bid for an item. We work with a consignor on each and every item to set an appropriate reserve price, and that price is kept confidential. It is important that reserve prices not be too high, otherwise the item will never sell — and it also cannot be too low, or there is a risk the item may sell for a price that’s too low. This is where our expertise and global market experience come into play. Our experts will guide you through the process and work with you to set reserves as needed.

Do I need to send my items to you?

If you just want a rough idea of what your items are worth, we can usually give you that from photos alone. To actually consign, we need the pieces in hand — we photograph, catalog, and market every item to a global buyer pool. Your items are fully insured from the moment they leave your hands, and while in our care they’re stored in a high-security fully-insured vault.

What happens if my items don’t sell?

We can return them to you, or attempt to sell again in another auction, or perhaps try another channel altogether — such as a Buy Now listing. You’re never charged a fee for unsold lots, unlike at many other auction houses.
