Every watch manufacturer has its specialty. For Audemars Piguet, that specialty was, and still is, the perpetual calendar. The watchmaker’s consistent focus over the decades on complications like the perpetual calendar is one reason Audemars Piguet remains the preeminent haute horlogerie house still owned by its founding families; in fact, some even regard the perpetual calendar as the company’s savior. The present reference is based on a design launched in 1978 at the depth of the Swiss watch industry. The battery-operated quartz watch was king and traditional Swiss watchmakers were being decimated. Audemars unveiled its perpetual calendar based on the slim automatic JLC caliber 920. Coming on the heels of the Royal Oak and Nautilus, the AP perpetual was a hit. The present example is in wonderful condition with only few signs of wear.
